2 Things I Learned from Pat Arzet

Atlanta Realtor, Pat ArzetPat Arzet is one of my Realtor Referral Partners on The King Team with Atlanta Community Properties.  She is a Georgia Native, and has been in the Atlanta Real Estate Market for over 30 years.  With too many accolades to list, she has been and continues to be a source of inspiration to me as I start my 16th year in the Mortgage Business.

Aside from being a Great Lady, A knowledgeable Professional Realtor, and one of the kindest people I know, Pat is full of Wisdom about our business and dealing with people.  There are many things I have learned from her, but here are 2 things that have changed my business and attitude:

  1. Don’t Listen to The Drunk Monkey! The drunk monkey is that voice inside your head that tells you over and over that you can’t succeed.  It is the Excuse generator that tells you I am not good enough, I don’t really know what I am doing, why would anyone want to work with me, I can’t make any money in this business, the Atlanta Falcons can’t win the Super Bowl, and on and on.  No matter what you do in life, no matter what obstacles you encounter in life, the Drunk Monkey is there, in you head, trying to keep you from succeeding and growing.  Our ability to control the Drunk Monkey from taking over our thought process will effect every area of our life.  So, when the Drunk Monkey comes around, DON’T LISTEN TO THE DRUNK MONKEY!
  2. Ask for the Business!  So, I had lunch with Pat this week and she looked me in the eye, very seriously, and asked, “Can I give you a some advice?”  It is a very sobering moment when someone you respect, cares enough to offer unsolicited advice.  “Sure!”, I said to Pat.  And here is what she said, “Dan, years ago, there was an insurance agent that would regularly come into our Real Estate office.  He was a super nice guy, brought us the brownies, left his information on our desk, and was always there with a great story and a kind word.  We all knew why he was there.  He wanted our referrals for Home Owners’ insurance.  So one day I said to him, “Jim, you need tell people that you need and want their business! You need to ask them for their referrals.”  Dan…You need to tell people that you need their business!”  This is something that I have known, something that I try always do, but here was someone I love and respect telling me I have not been doing it.  Well, rest assured, I am fixing that one….Now!  Even Steve Jobs of Apple Fame understood this principle.  Watch this video to here what he has to say about it: Steve Jobs – Dont Be Afraid To Ask For Help

So, here is a Favor I would like to ask from you, If you know anyone looking to purchase, sell, or refinance a home, would you send them my way?  Would you do that for me? Better yet, would you connect us with a three way email or text?

Thanks a million Pat for being so AMAZING!

Sincerely,
Dan McKenzie
